Melissa Rose

Melissa Rose began writing and performing poetry at age 16 and has been a member of the spoken word community since 2001. She is a creator and host of the Palo Alto Poetry Slam and a Team member of Palo Alto's National Poetry Slam Team in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2014. In addition to performing all over the United States, Melissa has read her work in over 30 cities in Germany and Austria including Munich, Frankfurt, Salzburg, and Hamburg, and was a featured poet at the German National Poetry Slam in 2010. She is a 2001 Young Playwright's Project award winner,  a 2011 recipient of the Spoken World Grant from the American Embassy of Berlin,  and a 2013 Write Bloody Publishing Contest Finalist.

Melissa moves through the world as a survivor of abuse, sexual assault and mental illness. Her work explores her own experiences overcoming her struggles with addiction, self harm and moving towards a place of acceptance, hope and healing while delivering visceral and raw emotional experiences that move and inspire audiences. 

Her work has been featured in Litjar Magazine, Broken Image Magazine, the International Slam Anthology “Planet Slam”, Indiefeed Performance Poetry Podcast, and “The Survival of the Ill List” live performance DVD.​
